We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Georgie Latimer to the post of Musical Director from September 2020
After finishing a music degree at Bangor University in 2011, and a Master's degree in 2012, Georgie went on to complete a practice-based PhD at Aberystwyth University in Word and Music Studies, exploring the musicality of language and the composition of poetry as a form of music. Georgie’s specialisms at undergraduate level included Conducting, Composition, and Solo Performance, for the last of which she studied Voice under the tutelage of Dr Alex Jarrett and Welsh opera singer Marian Bryfdir. Her recent papers include ‘“What is Truth?” - Capturing History, Creating Myth’, ‘Oral Traditions and Musically Orientated Poetics’, ‘Somewhere Beyond Literature: Words in Limbo - Composing Poetry as Music’, and ‘“In Dark Hours”: Poets, Princes and the Call to Choir’.
Georgie has performed with a number of ensembles, and has conducted various choirs over the years, including Cantiqua Nova, Cantorion Madrigalau Elisabethaidd, Coalville Male Voice Choir and Sweet Harmony. Having returned to Leicestershire, Georgie now teaches Singing, Violin, Double Bass and English, and composes texts and libretti for musical setting. Her poetry pamphlet (Re-)Living History was released in February 2019.
For over 25 years members of the Ratcliffe Chorale have enjoyed singing together whilst helping to raise money for a variety of charities. We make no charge for performing so if there is an event you are organising and at which you would like us to sing please get in touch using the form on the contact page of this website.
We sing a variety of music - songs from popular musicals, gospel tunes, sacred music, pop songs and Christmas carols. We also tackle longer works such as Vivaldi's Gloria , Stainer's Crucifixion and Bach's Magnificat. The main aim is to enjoy our singing.
The Chorale meets on Monday evenings during term time in the Junior School hall at Ratcliffe College from 7.15 pm to 9.00 pm.
We're always happy to welcome new members. If you are interested in adding a musical flavour to your leisure time, get in touch with us!
If you so much as warble in the bath, do come to a free taster session at any one of our rehearsals.
